PM Imran Khan not pleased over slow pace of development in Balochistan

Prime Minister Imran Khan Saturday expressed his concern over the slowness of development projects in the Southern Balochistan Development Package and ordered to hold a Apex Committee meeting every month. Apex Committee each month to examine the project’s execution.

The Prime Minister, who presided over the high-level gathering to review the execution of the plan was also instructed to call meetings of the committee on execution twice a week to accelerate work in 200 projects of development that are worth the sum of Rs. 655 billion.

He was told that just one conference that was part of the Apex Committee was held in one year and was supervised by the Provincial Chief Minister.

The premier directed the authorities to finish Turbat Airport and to construct two nursing schools located in Gwadar and Turbat in the earliest possible time.

The Prime Minister announced that he personally would hold monthly meetings of the review committee to get rid of obstacles to the progress of the development projects.

He also pointed out that the problems facing Balochistan were distinct in comparison to the rest of the country because the Baloch people were scattered and because of the vast distance between localities the government will have come up with innovative solutions to enhance the lives of people of Balochistan.

He directed the departments of energy, planning maritime affairs as well as the Government of Balochistan to work closely to speed up work on infrastructure, transportation, and energy projects within the framework of the package.

The Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier been informed that Balochistan is a rich resource province since it is the source of 40 percent of the locally produced gas used in the country. Federal government ownership was crucial to address the numerous issues confronted by this strategically important province.

The Prime Minister Imran Khan instructed his Balochistan government to overhaul its governance structure at the grass-roots level not just to speed up the process of developing projects, but also to improve the services offered to the average citizen.

The President also instructed authorities to initiate an effective campaign on the media to increase public awareness of the initiatives taken by the government for the well-being of the citizens of Balochistan.

This meeting was attended by the Energy Minister Muhammad Hammad Azhar, Industries Minister Makhdoom Khusro-Bakhtiar, Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain. Also present were Minister of Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Planning Minister Asad Umar and the Advisor for Finance Shaukat Fayyaz Tairin, chief minister Balochistan Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and other top officials concerned.
